Repowering

In April 1999, Senoko Power Ltd (SPL) embarked on the repowering of 3X120MW conventional thermal power units into the latest gas fired combined cycle gas turbine units.

The new CCGT units were designed using the existing steam turbine with new Alstom gas turbine GT26B and CMI HRSG. The 2 phases of the repowering project with 3X360MW CCGT units were successfully completed in March 2005.

The benefits of repowering include:

Increase in thermal efficiency of repowered CCGT units from 36% to over 50%;
More environmentally friendly power generation;
Faster start-up capability;
Lower construction cost and shorter approval/construction period.
